Out of school-teaching: Mathematics in 2nd grade

Nina's class at Vågåmo school had mathematics outside last week.

Equipment needed: two or three ropes and one bag for each pupil

The class used a rope as a circle to count numbers. The teacher called out a number, and the number of pupils the teacher called out, should run to the ring.

This was a little bit difficult for the pupils, because they all wanted to be in the ring.

In the next exercise the pupil's were divided in two teams, and we made two circles with the ropes. The team that first had the right number in the circle, won and got one point. With this exercise it is important to cooperate.

Then the teacher made a plus-sign between the circles. The teacher told the teams what number the teams should make in each ring. Then the team that first called out the right answer (after both teams had got the right number in the circles) got one point.

In the next exercise the pupils were told to find ten different things of the same kind. The things could be stones or cones. One pupil put all the things in one circle. The other pupils then should add the right number of things to make the numbers between 11 and 20.

And finally...

Ready for Bayern!

We are six norwegian's who are really looking forward to go to Bayern and Bad Tölz the next week.

We are leaving Gardermoen on sunday morning and will stay in Bad Tölz the whole week. We are threee teachers, one person from the school administration and two persons from Mountain Museum.

We are really happy that we will have the opportunity to participate in the local festival Leonhardifahrt on Monday. We will take a lot of pictures to show on the blog later.

The program for the visit looks great. We will get to know the school, the youth training center and the area. We will participate in "out of school teaching methods" with a birdt protection expert and farmer's wives. And of course we will change teaching methods and plan further co-operation.

We are really looking forward to get to know the German school system, society and culture. And to get to experience some of their teaching methods.

See you in Bad Tölz on Sunday!
