Learning with the reindeer

Thursday january the 26. We left for a two day trip in the mountian. We stayed in a very cosy cabin. We brought with us a lot of reindeer meat witch we prepared for dinner, breakfast and late supper as well as on open fire. When we had put our luggage in the cabin, we where skiing to a little lake where we planned to meet two reindeer rangers. They came on snowscooters. They told us about their job, and they had a lesson in lassothrowing with us. They also had with them a salted and dried reindeer tight. It tasted delicious! We hope our meat will taste as good as this! When we came back to the cabin, we ate dinner. In the evening we went to a ski stadion in the "Heidal forrest". Here we where skiing a couple of hours, and we had supper. After a good night sleep and a sollid breakfast, we where ready for a lesson with horses. We learned a lot about horses and equipment. After that we rode horse and sleigh and we rode on horseback. We went skkiing back to school. It was a great trip, and we learned a lot and having a wonderfull time in the prosess. It also was very important social training for the pupils. They learned how to dress, how to make an open fire, how to pack their gear and what kind of gear they needed for this kind of trip. They had to cooperate a lot. They learned how to take care of their gear and how to drie wet clothes. They also improoved their skiing skills a lot. In short terms, they learned a lot about how to take care of themselfes outdoor in the winter. Accomplish this kind of trip takes a little bit of planning and making appointments with the ekstern partners you want to involve. My experiences is that the pupils learn a lot more on such trips than they learn a whole week at school. I´m planning a trip with my class when you are visiting us in the spring. I´m looking forward to meet all of you again. Until then: Take care! FRODE
